There is something majestical about American trains. People have been singing about them ever since they have been around. Rounder has jumped in to document the different types of Railroading songs and Freight Train Blues is the fourth volume. All the tracks here have that clickity clack type rythym that is so prominent in railroad songs. All the songs possess a bit of a blues feel too even though the artists are all primarily country. A neat standout track is NRBQ's "Next stop Brattleboro" which is just train sounds and no vocals. The Fred Eaglesmith track "I like trains" is a great contribution as well. Doc and Merle Watson look after the title track and do a fine job on it. Kate Campbell breaks your heart with "Trains Don't Run From Nashville". Other artists included are Marty Stuart, Pure Prairie League, Joe Ely, and Asleep At The Wheel. You don't have to like trains to enjoy this fourth volume.
