RecommendThe followup to the very successful Lyricist Lounge has hit the streets and what a compilation. It seems appropriate that the highly influential hip hop label, Rawkus, is home to this series as it's the Lyricist Lounge open mic night, founded by Anthony Marshall and Danny Castro in 1992, that launched the careers of most of the artists on the label. It has now evolved into a massive show that is featured on MTV as well as an annual tour with all of todays hottest underground hip hop artists. This album opens up with a live cut of the late Notorious B.I.G. spitting out "16 bars". The artists on LL2 end up reading like the who's who of hip hop today, Mos Def, Nate Dogg, Q-Tip, Cocoa Brovas, Ghostface Killah, Redman and Saukrates (collaborating on "WKYA(Will Kick Your Ass)"), Erick Sermon, Dilated Peoples, RZA and diva Macy Gray. If you feel a little out of touch in the hip hop world, bring yourself up to speed with The Best shit out there on Lyricist Lounge 2.
