Anathema has come to me as a fairly new band but after reading the write up on them they have been at it for about 9 years already. In all honesty I was expecting a Death Metal album but instead was surprised with a progressive hard rock in the vein of Dream Theatre. Although being released in Europe in 1999 the band has finally manages to release Judgement to North America shores courtesy of Koch records. Although being a bit of a closet fan of Dream Theater for a number of years (I love their totally technical styles) I had not come across many bands like them. Anathema sport a fantastic singer (Vincent Cavanaugh) and the band is quite technical and diverse as well. They have a dark edge to them but they remain anything but Death Metal. There is a ton of emotion put into the album. You get to "Emotional Winter" and it has this great Pink Floyd style intro. A great band that I am glad came into my life.
