Yowza! My ears are bleeding! Curl Up and Die are one of the loudest and noisiest bands to come along so far this year. Unfortunately We’re Not Robots is their debut full-length album and from the sound of things, they have plenty more in store. The band comes from the Las Vegas area and is made up of Gavan Nelson (guitar), Jesse Fitts (drums), Matt Fucks (guitar), and the man with the sore throat, Mike Minnick. They all holed up in God City Studios in Boston with producer Kurt Ballou (Converge) for a month until they were happy with the final result. While Curl Up And Die’s music isn’t going to appeal to a wide audience, the avid hardcore crowd is going to eat this up. The metal-core sound that they have is fresher than other bands out. It’s got a lot to do with the tight rhythm changes that Fitts is capable of. While loud and angry, the album is also very diverse, showing off a wide array of influences. There are also some songs for the running in “Funniest song title�: “Kissing You is Like Licking an Ashtray� or “Your Idea of Fascism and Global Intervention Makes Me Puke�. (Revelation 2002)
