How's this one for an EP? One of the heaviest mind fucks of hardcore teaming up with Mike Patton, Mr. Vocal acrobatics himself. To top it off, this EP is also the debut for Dillinger Escape Plan on Epitaph records, their new home. If you are unfamiliar with The Dillinger Escape Plan but know of the diversity of Mike Patton, this will be a good introduction to the band. This meeting happened when The Plan was opening for Mike Patton's Mr. Bungle in 1999. Last year, the band found themselves without a lead singer and while looking found that Patton was interested in doing a collaboration. Irony is a Dead Scene is the result of that. The only bad thing about Irony is that it's only about 18 minutes long and 4 tracks deep. One of the track selection was Aphex Twin's "Come To Daddy"?, which is a bit of a surprise but it turns out that it is as impressive as the rest of the album. The album is full of time changes, which are signature of both artists. It really is a shame that this is only a one off project. Dillinger Escape Plan and Mike Patton seem to play off of each other so nicely. Not for the faint hearted.

Mike Patton and DEP were a match made in the corner of Hell Satan's favorite sinners must inhabit. The results of such a combining of insanity are defining moments for both the multi-project vocalist and the math-core magicians. Each of the songs on this EP is a monument representing what may very well be the most perfect matching of styles imaginable; crazy meets crazed. Luke got it all right, and I'm not going to do his fine review a disservice by rehashing it. Get this album, and hoooooold on.
