What have the gods of doom sludge metal been up to as of late? Check out Let Us Prey for the answer. Let Us Prey is Electric Wizard’s follow-up to their monolithic Dopethrone which came out in 2000. While Let Us Prey has only 6 songs on it, the album still comes in at 45 minutes. The tracks range from 4 – 10+ minutes and have you wondering if your stereo is alright. If you have never heard Electric Wizard then you are in for something different. Kyuss started something that can’t be stopped and Electric Wizard has taken the scheer intensity of stoner rock/metal to the next level with the release of Let Us Prey. Imagine all the bands amps covered in mud and turned up so loud that the mud starts flying off. The intesity and sludgy sound that Electric Wizard is able to get from their amps is a feat in itself. And then to craft that sludge into listenable slabs of doom is the rest of the equation. The amazing thing is that there is only three members of this loud band. Electric Wizard is one band that I would love to see live. Best track goes to the spooky “Night of the Shape.
