“Enter into The Gate…enter a place where there is romance in death, beauty in darkness, and wisdom is found when you scratch the surface. So goes the one-pager that accompanied Goliath’s new dark album The Gate. It took me a few listens to get into Goliath. Goliath is in fact the brainchild of Mick Rowe, a fan of Kiss, Black Sabbath, and Alice Cooper, all influences that ooze out into his own music. The album upon first listen resembles some cheesy metal but after a couple listens you start to get into the dark and foreboding sounds that Mick has created. The album is dark as the Ace of Spades but there are preacher quotes thrown in all over the place. I don’t quite understand. Goliath sounds like Black Sabbath playing around and recording some Mans Ruin material. Mick Rowe’s vocals are very good. Let’s call Goliath “Doom Metal and all will be well.
