I love Slayer. Let's get that out in the open. Slayer has paved the way for many a Death Metal band and brought shock value to metal without losing the whole purpose. God Hates Us All is their umpteenth album and they are not ready to lay down a die yet. That's proven on the blistering "Disciple" with its "God Hates Us All" refrain. This album takes all the greatness of all Slayer albums and mashes them up into one palatable stew. They experiment a bit with "God Send Death", which has a bit of an industrial feel to it. Don't worry fans, they haven't changed that much. Once that song in is over, they break right into "New Faith" which clocks along with the shock factor slamming pretty much every religion that exists. The packaging is very cool too. Slayer incorporates their lyrics in amongst bible pages. Obviously the graphics on the cover (a bible like book with Slayer burned in and nails and blood all over it) were a bit much for censors so they put a tame white sheet in to cover it up. It blows my mind that this is the same label that has given Johnny Cash new life. I knew it all along; Johnny is the Devil.

I have a three track paperback of this, in dark red letters over black it says god hates us all, on the back, "god send death" set for release 9.11.1. Now thats evil!

When I think of all the good Slayer have done, it's stuff like this that smears those friendly memories. "God Hates Us All" is so poor, so un-Slayer in everything but title and tone, that me reviewing it would be a disservice to you and anyone else interested in this uninteresting time in Slayer's career. Gathering up influence from every type of metal that was popular at the time, "God Hates Us All" is a summing up of Slayer's work in the 90's. All hype, nothing to show. I'm not going to say this album is for nobody, because it has it's moments (for what it is); I'm fond of the track "Disciple" in particular. Overall, sadly, this album falls flat.
