Oh My God! This is the heaviest, catchiest, gimicky band to embark on the metal warpath. Not many bands/performers are known from Iowa and Slipknot just may be the band to put De Moines on the musical map. Thick walls of sound (ok they have 9 players in the band (names are 0 to 8!?)) burst from the speakers but you just can't help but turn it up a little more. And with thier masks and industrial jumpsuits they pose a threat to the metal throne of the '90s. This album just may go down as a classic metal of the decade. We'll see where the boys of Slipknot go from here.

They certainly made a lasting impression, considering the one trick still works today. But, there's no accounting for such things, is there? Somehow, Kiss is still making more money than more than half of all the signed acts in the world. Some gimmicks never die.

No, my affection for Slipknot faded when I realized they were a one trick pony. I still listen to them from time to time but rarely. Remember, this is back in 1999 and it was cutting edge back then. But they never really went beyond this schtick.

5/10. Tentatively. I remember my very brief affection for this band, and it began with some of the tracks from this record. Eyeless and Surfacing, in particular. However, it wasn't long before it dawned on me; everything else I was listening to, and I do mean everything, made Slipknot fade into the ether of my musical consciousness.

I've never seen this editorial review...Dennis, are you still as crazy for these guys as you were then? It actually surprises me a bit, but misconceptions are funny and offensive little things.

When Slipknot came onto the scene in 1996 with Mate.Feed.Kill.Repeat. they were met with a lot of rejection. That is, until they found a few people that liked them enough to give them a chance. After releasing this album, I was glad that those few people gave them a chance to prove their greatness, because they certainly did so here.

This self-titled album starts out the same way as do all of their albums with an instrumental track, except this one has two people constantly repeat The whole thing I think is sick. until the first real song, (sic), kicks in with a killer intro of itself. The drums of Joey Jordison are excellent throughout this album and prove why hes one of my favorite drummers.

This album contains a little bit of everything, from an insane chorus of Eyeless to a perfect sing-along song in Wait and Bleed a sick and disgusting story in Prosthetics. All of them combine to create both a strange and heavy first album from clearly one of the weirdest bands of all time. One cannot forget though two of the most famous concert songs in Spit It Out and Surfacing, both of which are sure to find their way onto the set list somehow. The latter is known as the Peoples Anthem, which seems like the perfect song for an angst-filled teenager ready to rebel. The final song on the regular version of the album is Scissors, which is about a man who cuts himself to death with scissors and has more emotion packed into its eight minutes than any song Ive heard.

This album has almost nothing wrong with it, but its not a perfect 10/10. If I could give half ratings, I would, but for now Ill give it a 9.
