Leila - Courtesy of Choice
You may wonder why it took so long in order to review this album by Bjork collaborator Leila. To tell you the truth, I had a listen to it when it first hit my desk last August and literally hated it. It stuck around for a while and just recently I had picked it up again and I thought I would give it another chance. I fell in love with it! Obviously one of those albums that takes a few listens in order to fully appreciate. This is Leila's first domestic release following up her UK only release in 1998 on Rephlex on which she recorded with "DJ Giles Peterson". Her music gets almost unlistenable at times but the magical moments make up for her craziness. The first single, "Sodastrea", catches you as a off the wall trip hop track with mezmerizing vocals from Luca Santucci. Don't give up after only one listen. You won't be disappointed. It's dark but enjoyable all the same.
