Speedealer is a band that I find much easier to take on CD than in a live setting. I’ve seen Speedealer twice now and by the time they’re done my head is aching. They are intense to say the least but it’s almost as if they take more care and time into what they put down on disc. And Second Sight is one of the better metal releases I have heard this year. It may have something to do with former Metallica bass player, Jason Newsted taking production credits but after seeing the band live you know that this group of metallers is capable of big things. Vocals start smoking after the first three tracks and then they light on fire. Jeff Hirshberg will be lucky to have any vocals left after his carrer with Speedealer (formerly REO Speedealer until the similar named 80’s rock band complained loudly). Drummer Harden Harrison tries the vocal thing on a couple tracks and succeeds as well. The band proves that there is some middle ground between the stoner rock sounds of Kyuss and the speed metal sounds of early Slayer. If you need a dose of heavy shit, look no further than Speedealer’s Second Sight CD. It’s a doozy.
