Having never heard of this new metal/hardcore band, I had no idea what to expect but I was ushered in with the very intense “This Is Our Voice and was impressed from the start. Time In Malta are a San Francisco based hardcore band that manages to use all sorts of influences from New York styled hardcore to DC area post-punk. They even inject some pop/rock influences into their music. Time In Malta have succeeded in creating a very original debut album that is sure to gain them some well-deserved attention. There is something about Time In Malta that really holds your attention. Let’s call it talent. In the hardcore world, you end up with a bunch of so-called musicians that just crank out some standard guitar riffs with angry screaming vocals. Time In Malta is able to move away from that structure into something higher and way more interesting. This all in the way they move between the genres seamlessly. Oh, there’s plenty of angry vocals but lead singer, Todd Gullion is actually capable of singing at times. This is a great debut.
