Lemon Jelly sold me with their first brilliantly packaged album of skewed and a little left of center beats. Indeed, Lost Horizons is actually Lemon Jelly's proper debut album and they are out to prove that there is room for them in the electonica world. Lost Horizons begins its adventurous journey with "Elements", a track where the periodic table of elements is read over a hypnotizing and beautiful rhythm and beat. It builds and the voice fades off as the music becomes more engaging. One of my favorites, "Spacewalk" makes its way into second spot. The track begins by a space walk transmission that builds up until he states "it's coming. Any second now... There it goes! Beautiful. Just beautiful. Another favorite is "Nice Weather for Ducks". I won't spoil the surprise but be ready for quirkiness. Lemon Jelly knows that repeated samples become boring fairly quickly so they are sure to switch it up before that occurs. Lost Horizons may not seem like a work of art upon first listen but when you venture in past the surface, there is a lot more going on underneath that comes out with repeated listens. This is a nice addition to their EP collection as well as forward momentum being made.
