This was a hard disc for me to review and hard discs usally mean they are pretty damn good. The problem is that you don't want to do them any injustices by not coming across as strongly as you wanted. To start off, Style no. 6312 was produced by Shellac bassist, Bob Weston which provides the punching thrills along the way. The album opens with "Appeals For Insertion" which sounds like a Built To Spill song. A soon as it's over the next track, "Crashing The Clarion", quickly changes the pace to a lopingsound not much different than Shellac only not quite as distorted. The White Octave proves that they are happy playing at many different tempos and volumes providing a total dynamic experience for us the listeners. The guitars provide a creative edge while the lyrics make you think that the lyricist is hovering on the edge. The White Octave have succeded in creating a different album. Watch for these guys live - sure to be an energetic show.
