This UK based retro rock outfit is one of the newest bands to be added to the diverse Sub Pop label. Looking like they just came out of The Outsiders movie complete with leather jackets and slick hair The Yo-Yo's pull off a sound that is a combination of old rock and roll and late '80s hair metal. It sounds completely strange but these Brits pull it off without a hitch. It's acually very refreshing in the world of copycats out there right now. The sound is a bit sleazy but always anthemic. By the time a track is done you are are singing along with it and it's stuck in your head. They establish a sense of humor with tracks like "Half Hour Heartache" ("At ten past you let me go / I'll be over you by 20 to"). Other tracks of note are "Champagne and Nakedness" and "Cellphone Psychophobia". A highlight for not only Sub Pops releases this year but for Rock in general.
