Zen Guerrilla makes the move with another tasty slab of their psychedelic rock style to make us boogie into the sunset. Some might just lump Zen Guerrilla into the stoner rock category but although they have many things in common with bands like Fu Manchu and Kyuss they have soul. Yes, Zen Guerrilla has soul. One listen to the closing track “Fingers, which was recorded live, and you will be Souled. Shadows on the Sun is their fourth album and their second with Sub Pop. Shadows shows a big jump in the growth of the band with their complete sound coming in. They aren’t relying near as much on crazy sounds to get them through. Their main goal on Shadows is to give their fans uncompromised rock music that has heart and soul. Zen Guerrilla manage to do that and then some. Throw on “Staring Into Midnight and tell me that this band doesn’t rock. They are stupidly catchy for what they do and this album proves that they are true songwriters too.
