Do you remember the first Home Alive compilation? It was released in 1996 on Sony with artists like Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, Fastbacks, The Gits, Exene Cervenka, and many others. The whole reason behind these albums is to fund an anti-violence project that offers affordable self-defense classes, public awareness campaigns, and organizes community events. Basically Home Alive is out to prove that safety is a human right. It originally got started with the brutal rape and murder of The Gits lead singer Mia Zappata. Flying Side Kick is the long-awaited follow-up to the original and it is being released on Broken Rekids and distributed by Mordam. All the material on this album is previously unreleased from artists such as The Gossip, Amy Ray & The Butchies, The Need, The Black Halos, Dead Moon, and The Makers. This is a great compilation! It is raw and powerful with a lot of lesser known bands but very strong songs. One of my favorite tracks is “Rebel Girl from a band called The Pinkos. The Black Halos track “Worry Doll is as strong as some of their regular material. And another track to mention is the laid back “Orange from Seattle-based Sanford Arms.
