This little tribute to the Music of Paul McCartney is quite surprising in all of its offerings. I am going to start out by naming some of the artists involved: Owsley starts off the compilation with “Band on the Run� and knocks us out, try on Barenaked Ladies, Semisonic, The Finn Brothers (from Crowded House), World Party, Matthew Sweet, Robyn Hitchcock, and my favorite on the album, Sloan with a superb rendition of “Waterfalls�. They Might Be Giants also make an appearance with “Ram On�. This isn’t just a “by-the-way� type of tribute album to one half of the greatest songwriting duo in history. It is an album that shows just how long and how diverse a crowd Mr. McCartney touched. These artists are very good at what they do and are able to make Paul’s songs their own. The production value is very high as well. There are a few songs that could use a bit of fine-tuning but in the end it’s a very strong release. As if that’s not enough to buy it, a portion of the proceeds go to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation in memory of Linda McCartney. If Listen To What The Man Said isn’t enough for you then you can also get Coming Up, which features unsigned artists doing McCartney material.
