The Waifs - Up All Night
The Waifs are an Australian folk-pop outfit that is starting to make their way over to North America. Up All Night is not the group’s first album; in fact the Waifs have released 3 previous Cds. The group started out as a vehicle for the songwriting and performances of sister’s Donna and Vikki Simpson. Josh Cunningham was introduced to put on the finishing touches of the group and they have been a threesome since. They have been recording and traveling for over 10 years and they show no signs of slowing down. Up All Night was recorded in Los Angeles with Mark Howard as well as Melbourne with Chris Thompson. It’s nice that all three of them share songwriting and vocal duties. It adds a dimension to the band rarely seen in folk groups. Vikki and Donna can harmonize like the Indigo Girls and their songs aren’t that far behind in quality. There isn’t anything overly original to the Waifs but there is a charm to this folk group that can only be attributed to their youthfulness.
