I am one of very few, I suspect, who haven’t seen Stomp in one form or another since its inception. If you are with me on this then you are also probably in agreement that it’s not for lack of trying. Every time the show makes its way to Calgary it is sold out before you know it. Pulse is the IMAX version of the Stomp show and Six Degrees was kind enough to provide us with the soundtrack to the movie. Music is all about rhythm. Rhythm is the first thing you learn when you are taking any sort of music lessons. Different time signatures and beats are what make up music. Once you have that down you can start adding notes and harmonies. All you need for a good song is a great rhythm. Stomp is all about rhythm. The first track on the soundtrack is called Beat Box and it encompasses all that Stomp is about; using anything and everything to hammer out a beat and put vocals over top of it. Carlinhos Brown kicks in with the second track with Timbalada and Os Zarabe in the heaviest rhythm track on the album. For good measure some hip-hop is even thrown in. The title track “The Pulse features the rapping of Keith “Wildchild Middleton. Some remixes are thrown in for good measure like a good Six Degrees release. There are mixes by Karsh Kale and a few by Mr. Bill and Mr. Ben. If you have seen Stomp, you will be all over this soundtrack. If not, it is a good introduction to what the show is all about. I know I’ll be first on the phone the next time the show comes to town.
