The Gotan Project is the brilliant group that was visualized by Philippe Cohen Solal and Christophe H. Muller. It wasn't until they brought in guitarist Eduardo Makaroff that the band was complete. Move the letters of Gotan around and you get Tango. That is the underlying musical concept behind the group. All the music has a tango rhythm and feel to it. While the Tango sound, of course, is nothing new, the members of Gotan Project are able to inject a new world ambience to the classic dance. Imagine a dance group using accordions. What would Tango be without accordion? That is one of the main elements that Gotan uses throughout. There are also the sultry Spanish vocals of Cristina Vilallonga that send chills down your spine. Argentinean Tango has never sounded this fresh and invigorating. Listen for your local DJ dropping in a few Gotan Project tracks into his/her mix to stir things up a bit. This is fresh material that deserves to be heard.
