The Throwing Muses are back after an unheard of hiatus (7 years). Their last album, Limbo, sort of gave an impression on what the Muses were thinking. Kristen Hersh (vocals) said, "The band was barely breaking even, and it just didn't seem to make sense financially to continue Throwing Muses as a living entity. We loved each other and Limbo was our best records." So basically, the band took off and did their own projects but in 2000 they went to Boston for a live reunion. After that they headed off to the studio for three weekends and made a quick and dirty album with very few overdubs and no heavy-handed mixing. The Muses basically recorded the album that they have been trying to hit for so long. Original Muse, Tanya Donelly who left the band to form Belly was involved with the eponymous album. The album turned out magnificently and would be considered by many to be one of their best offerings. The songs are raw and gritty but hold the listener in with Kristen's fine voice. It is quite a departure from what Kristen has been doing on her own.
