While every critic wants to hate Mr. Thorogood, one can't deny that he is a masterful blues musician. Yes, I said masterful. See, most critics can't get by the fact that most of his hits where old classic blues tracks. The only difference with what George did and what a group like Led Zepplin did is that George out and out covered the songs instead of ripping them off. He gave credit where credit is due and added his own drunken flair to the songs. Take their cover of Hank Williams "Move It On Over". They turn it into one of the biggest party tunes ever. Or the more-popular-than-John Lee Hooker's "One Bourbon, One Scotch and One Beer". "I come home one Friday, had to tell the landlady I lost my job". Who Do You Love? is a new compilation from Rounder Records, George's first three albums where on Rounder. This collection pulls from these first three albums and re-sequence them. It puts a bit of a new light on these tracks, listening to them again for the first time. There are some tracks on this album that I haven't really heard (probably have but don't remember). Bo Diddley's "Ride On Josephine" comes off without a hitch. And the crooning that he does on Jimmy Reed's "I'll Change My Style" is a Thorogood voice I have never heard before. Listen to George Thorogood again for the first time. I think you will be pleased with the result.
