On last year's Optometry album, DJ Spooky, that Subliminal Kid, created some very cool songs and made a near perfect mix for the new Thirsty Ear Blue Series. He has now handed these tracks off to various remixers for their reinterpretation. It works fairly well although I tend to like the Optometry album a bit better. It's not just a throw away though. He brings in some heavy hitters with J-Live ("Optometrix"), the dub master Lee "Scratch" Perry ("Jungle Soldier"), the sound of the Asian underground with Karsh Kale ("Variation Cybernetique mix"), another dub king Mad Professor ("Interlude"), Negativeland ("Asphalt rmx") and so many more. Dub may not be as present as the title may suggest so think of this more as a remix album. Optometry was a twisted album as it was so you can imagine how much fun these guys had with the remixing. Only die hard fans need apply.
