Benton Falls epitomizes everything that is right with the emo genre. I know that there is so many preconceived notions about emo and all the repercussions that the genre holds but give Benton Falls 5-10 minutes of your time before you walk away. Benton Falls is a Santa Rosa based threesome (one of their guitarists left after their last album) that molds songs out of intimate subjects but is not afraid to crank up the volume while they are playing. There are fancy time changes that Fugazi would recognize but the main thing that Benton Falls focuses on is melody and Guilt Beats Hate (what an emo title too) has some awesome guitar melodies happening. Michael Richardson's vocals are meant for Benton Falls and this little 3-piece they have. I'm always amazed when the same band can pull off a quiet song like the softly spoken "Angel On Hiatus" and the scream like nobodies business on "There's No 'F' In Team". Give them a chance and you won't look back.
