U.S. Bombs are back with their classic punk sound touting a new album. Covert Action is still led by former pro-skater Duane Peters but there has been a line-up change since their last album. Curt Gove who was in Les Snitches has joined the band playing guitar alongside founding member Kerry Martinez. And Jamie Reidling takes over on the skins. Rounding out the band is bassist Wade Walston. With the new blood in the band Duane seems as fired up as ever while he rips out the lyrics to the 13 tracks on Covert Action. If you are unfamiliar with the band let me describe their sound. U.S. Bombs live in the past when it comes to punk rock. Their sound is founded upon old-school British punk and they sound like they would be more at home in the early 80s punk scene. That aside, they do the punk thing better than most of the kids out there today. The group is heavily focused on inspiring kids to get a life and do something meaningful. They don't preach but they show what a crappy life some people have and that there is so much opportunity out there. As true punks the U.S. Bombs try to focus on political issues and do a fine job on Covert Action. Duane Peters has never sounded better than on Covert Action. "Art Kills" should make it on a few budget samplers. It's a fantastic in-your-face song.
