Elliott (Chris Higdon) has been on Revelation Records since day one and Song In The Air marks his third album for the label. While Revelation is known more for their hardcore values, Elliott has managed to keep their company for this long and there is no sign of them making a move elsewhere. On Song In The Air the band is even more experimental in their orchestral pop style and are branching out using a string quartet assembled by Christian Frederickson's the Rachel's. The band seems fuller than their previous album, "False Cathedrals" even though that album totally impressed me. This may be due to the addition of Benny Clark on guitar and Jason Skaggs on bass. Oh, it's still Chris' band but the others seem to have added a new spark to where Elliott has been heading. Chris' vocals are also maturing nicely and the emotions that he puts into his mellow singing make you believe that he is completely passionate about his music and lyrics. According to their bio, their live shows are loud and full of energy despite what we may listen to on the albums. I would like to experience Elliott live. Song In The Air is an almost perfect album that remind me of what the Gloria Record were trying for on their last album but never quite got to this level. An effort that started out as an EP has blossomed into the best album of the band's career. Watch for Elliott hitting your city soon.
