Coup d'Etat records had a pleasant surprise last year with J-Live's amazing album, All Of The Above. It took the hip-hop world by storm and is regarded as one of the best rap albums in the past few years. J-Live isn't the only ace that Coup d'Etat has up their sleeve. Coming up shortly is a frequent Mr. Lif collaborator Akrobatik. You can get a spattering of what this amazing MC has to offer. He contributes the lead off track "Balance" and one called "Strictly For The DJ's". This album sampler wouldn't be complete without a couple tracks from J-Live himself. He's present here with a track called "How Real It Is" and one called "One For The Griot". A complaint here is that they should have pulled tracks that weren't on All Of The Above. Fans would eat them up. Soul Purpose is a production team that is about to drop their debut album this summer. They have two very cool tracks on the compilation. One complaint I have with Coup d'Etat is their signing of MC Paul Barman. I can't stand the guy. Sure, he's on college charts all over the place but what do people see in the guy? I would say that it's nothing more than a cheap novelty act. Let's hope that Coup doesn't lose credibility for this artist. He's the only artist held to one contribution making it still a worthy purchase for hip-hop fanatics.
