Elefant - Sunlight Makes Me Paranoid
Elefant have created quite an impressive debut album. The four-piece from New York has managed to recall the sounds of The Smiths and The Cure but update it with a heavier sound and more wavey effects than the prior bands. Surprisingly, lead singer Diego Garcia has a strangely British accent that makes him sound even more like some sort of Brit-pop band. The guitars on Sunlight Makes Me Paranoid provided by the monosyllabic Mod are very creative and add depth to Elefant that may not have existed otherwise. Sunlight starts off with one of the poppiest tracks on the album called "Make Up". It's a bouncy track with a driving bass rhythm along with airy vocals. "Now That I Miss Her" is the first track that could fit into the Cure's catalog. Now, you decide whether that's a good thing or not. Elefant is a talented band, even if they do mimic some past bands. They are able to make their own style and are tight in their musical deliver. Sunlight Makes Me Paranoid may just be enough to bring this band to the masses.
