Under The Influence is a new series that Bob Duskis, cofounder of Six Degrees Records, decided would be a perfect fit for the label. The whole premise with the series is to showcase DJs in settings that they wouldn't normally find themselves. Rob Swift has been offered the second mix following the cool DJ Spooky mix. Swift took the idea that he would mix up music that influenced him as a kid, basically everything he heard his older brother playing while Rob was a child. You will hear unreleased music from the 70's, heavily based out of the South. He has even tossed on a couple of Six Degrees own Bobi Cespedes, a Latin tinged singer which he keeps quite true to the original. Rob Swift proved he was an Ablist on his debut album but this Under The Influence mix shows this great DJ stretching out into new territory. Have a listen to the opening track "Hip Drop" by The Explosions for a hint of the funk that's to come. The music on here makes you want to go out and find the music that Rob uses in the mix but unfortunately I've found out that it really is not available. Not sure where Swift picked it up but advice to you, if you like rare music then Under The Influence is going to be right up your alley. It has elements of what the Avalanches where going for on their last album but in such a better fashion. You will have a hard time not nodding your head to this awesome mix.
