No one else could have recorded this album than Steve Albini. Giddy Motors has so many similarities to Albini's noise rock band, Shellac that it would only make sense. In fact, Giddy Motors sound like a total cross between Shellac and Jon Spencer Blues Explosion. Make It Pop is actually more complicated than that. It's kind of a mind-fuck like the cover with two bird's heads popping off revealing spark-plugs under the hood. Vocalist and guitarist Gaverick de Vis is manic in his vocal presentation to the point of freaking out. "Sassy" is a great example of this. Crazed vocals and then he softens right up to give us "Dog Hands". It's not just the vocals that are amazing, it's the whole angular songwriting that Giddy Motors is capable of. There is a big jazz influence here as well as the math rock of Chicago. They are from England but you would swear that they were American. I haven't heard anything this intense come from the UK ever. If you are a fan of Albini's noisier project then you have to check out Giddy Motors. There is more depth here than you see at first glance.
