I was first introduced to Tri Continental with their live album a couple of years ago. I was completely floored at the quality of music that Bill Bourne, Madagascar Slim, and Lester Quitzau were able to create together. It is one of those magical times when musicians find harmony amongst other musicians. Let's Play is their first studio album and they have done a really nice job with it. There seems to be a little more world beat music than anything else on the album but Bourne and Quitzau seem fine and at home with it. One of the most interesting tracks on Let's Play is Bill Bourne singing "With A Little Help From My Friends". It keeps a world style influence but melds the western influences to create one of the best renditions of this Beatles track ever. Tri Continental has also picked up a fourth member (not sure if it's permanent) Ramesh Shotham. Not sure if it's a friend or what but he does add even more to the mix. If you enjoyed the live disc or are a fan of any of the individual artists then Let's Play will be right up your alley. It is a perfect example of how music is an international language. Let's Play is a beautiful album and all involved should feel proud of themselves.
