If you can believe it, it's almost been a decade since the Allman Brothers have graced us with a studio album. The last time they hit the studio was for 1994's Where It All Begins. The backbone of the band is still Greg Allman and this album marks the return of Warren Haynes (who keeps himself busy with Gov't Mule as well). Warren at in at an extended Beacon Theater run in New York and all seem to flow nicely. The young and upcoming Derek Trucks is seen playing alongside the boys as well. His awesome guitar playing is always a pleasure to hear and just adds a whole new dimension to Warren's playing. Hittin' The Note really does hit the note and is sure to be a hit with the newfound jam band scene that Phish is a part of. Hittin' The Note seems to weigh a little more heavily on the blues side than the country side. There are still country gems here like the laid back "Old Before My Time". Greg's vocals have never sounded better and I think it would benefit all involved to stick with the Allman Brothers chemistry. The production on this album is pristine as well making it a very nice return to form. I would like to see them tour with Double Trouble.
