It's been a while since I have heard a release such as Tomorrow Waits. This is the new album from Silent Kids, a group of musicians from Atlanta, GA that has been asked to tour with none other than the Delgados themselves. I would place this band alongside the likes of Seam with their instantly like-able lo-fi sound. Silent Kids do have a stereo sound but it does have a hint of the bedroom aesthetics that this sort of music quite often possesses. This album originally surfaced back in 2002 on a limited run self-release but Atlanta's Two Sheds Music felt that it deserved a wider distribution. The band makes use of samples and organs but is primarily a guitar oriented band. Michael Oakley is the man behind that Robert Pollard style voice that makes Silent Kids so charming. While the recording does have that bedroom feel to it, the album is fairly warm and does rock out quite often ("Miami"). This is due to the layering of instrumentation. The three-piece should gain a lot of recognition with Tomorrow Waits. (Note: they have recently added a permanent keyboardist to the mix).
