RecommendJack White is not wasting any time getting his roster filled up on his new vanity label, Third Man. Whirlwind Heat is a band that shouldn't have made major label distribution to start with. Their sound is nothing like The White Stripes though. They almost sound like something that should be on Dischord records. The music is jerky and off kilter at times. The band cleverly names thirteen tracks after colors, from "Orange" to "Grey". The music is most easily compared to Devo with it's jerky sounds and spasmadic guitar bursts. Band leader and vocalist David Swanson is what makes Whirlwind Heat stand out. The band hasn't sold me but I'm sure a few more spins of Do Rabbits Wonder would have me convinced. I just need to be coaxed into a couple more spins to let that happen.
