MIDIval PunditZ have been all over the world-electronica map since their inception but this is their first attempt at pulling together an album. I have seen their name pop on a variety of remix projects as well as some of the Six Degrees Travel Series compilations. The group of producers (Gaurav Raina and Tapan Raj) is from New Delhi, India. They incorporate many aspects of traditional Indian music with beats and rhythms from the western world. This may not sound all that original but when you listen to some of their tracks you will feel the freshness in what the PunditZ have achieved. They make good use of the santur (hammered dulcumer), bansuri flute, and numerous vocalists throughout the album. There are other groups like the Tabla Beat Science (MIDIval PunditZ were invited to perform at one of their concerts) who do the same sort of music but not very many are able to do it as well as these two. If you saw the movie “Monsoon Wedding you would have hear the music of the PunditZ. If you have an interest in East Indian music and enjoy electronic beats, then this group will appeal to you on so many levels.
