Paloalto - Heroes and Villians
Paloalto seems to me like a copycat version of Travis. Some of the songs I even expect to hears "The grass is always greener on the other side" but it just doesn't quite happen. There is much to be said for borrowing from others successes but there is something different with this Brit-rock band, they come to us from California instead. Paloalto is indeed an American band but their sound is very British in every other way. Heroes and Villains is not a bad album, just a little uninspired. The songs are sweeping and epic in magnitude, helped out with Rick Rubin's production flair. Had Paloalto hit the markets about 5 years ago, there would have been so much more to say about this release. There isn't much diversity in the album with most of the songs never reaching a faster pace than the others. One exception is "What Are You" that picks up the speed a little. Still, this album is not essential by any measures but there are some people that will think this is the best thing out there. I might suggest trying Coldplay or Travis for the real deal.
