Blue Shade Witness is a band that sounds bigger than life itself. This self-titled EP is their first foray into the messed up recording world. Mike Felumlee (Smoking Popes, Alkaline Trio) has taken it upon himself and his Double Zero record label to introduce the world to this talented Chicago 4-piece. From their bio, they have been building their fanbase slowly but surely touring with bands like Something Corporate and The Violet Burning. The band possesses a bit of a Brit-rock sound, just enough to give them some attitude but they also have one foot in an emo style rock as well. The album starts off huge with "The Stars Will Shine". It's almost got a Goo Goo dolls feel to it with the huge guitars and the emotional vocals. The best comparison for this band has to be The Catherine Wheel. Imagine that band with an American singer. There are some more mellower tracks on the EP and they don't sell out at all. It's just what they do best. The vocals along with the thoughtful lyrics are a perfect match for the mellower style of the band. The more I listened to Blue Shade Witness, the more I enjoyed them. Two full-length albums and we will see this band on a much grander scale, one that should take them all the way.
