Mimi+Boyd - Angular Island
While Angular Island might sound a bit dated due to it’s original 1998 recording date, it actually sounds fairly fresh and invigorating. Mimi+Boyd is in fact a duo consisting of Michelle “Punisher Hermann of the Detroit electronica scene and Mark Gage of Vapourspace. They met through a chance meeting at a Detroit rave and chose to do an album of material together. Angular Island was the result and thanks to Phthalo Records it’s getting a proper release. The programmed drums and the spacey samples really get into your psych and get’s you up and moving. There isn’t a slow moment on the entire album and the beat is a basic 4/4 that really becomes infectious. It’s experimental and yet very accessible. Mimi+Boyd need to sit down and do another more updated album and that should ensure their name getting out. IDM and rave fans will both take pleasure in Angular Island.
