Supergrass has come a long way since their big "Alright" hit back in 1995. Yeah, you remember the stupidly catchy lyrics - "We are young/We are free/Brush our teeth/Nice and clean". Well, three albums deeper into Supergrass' catalog and we have a super mature pop album. Sure, there are still some fun tracks on here but this is a sign of a talented group coming into their own. Their earlier stuff was brilliant but this is the progression that many great bands have come. Look at the way the Beatles captured fans with the immediacy of some of their earlier pop stuff and then moved into a more experimental area. That's the sort of direction it looks like Gaz and the boys are heading. Not sure if it will be as successful as the aforementioned band but time will tell. Have a listen to "Prophet 15" for proof of their maturity. This is a great song that will never make it as a single. It is just too intricate for the average listener to understand. If you haven't liked Supergrass in the past, it might be time to check back in and give Life On Other Planets a once over. If you see it on a listening post, give it a try. The album starts out with a track called "Za" where Gaz sounds like a resurrected John Lennon. It really is uncanny. "Rush Hour Soul" is where the tried and true Supergrass comes into play. I wouldn't be surprised if either this track or "Seen The Light" will be chosen for singles. These boys are great songwriters and will be around for a while longer.
