Death By Stereo seems to be reinvigorated with their latest offering, Into The Valley Of Death. Their style of politically fueled punk/metal has become visceral and completely intense. There is no doubt that they are modern day punk but their sound is littered with classic metal riffs and nods to bands like Helloween. Fingers fly on the fretboards of the guitars and lead singer Dfrem Schulz's vocals are nimble and diverse. Listen to the angry rants on "These Are A Few Of My Favorite Things". Their style reminds me of the diversity of System of a Down the way the time changes and the way they can change up their style in an instant. Their musical skills shine through on Valley Of Death in more ways than one. The band is tight and the songs are brilliantly crafted. There are politics abound on the album ("Flag Day") but they still manage to have a sense of humor. Check out the cleverly titled "I Wouldn't Piss In Your Ear If Your Brain Was On Fire" for an example of this. We'll have to see how they follow this one up but I think Death By Stereo have outdone themselves and created the album of their career and in only three albums.
