It's been a few years since we have heard from the cast of Cul de Sac. Four to be exact but it's not like Glen Jones has not been doing anything. In fact he has been recruiting some new members and found Jonathan LaMaster (bass/violin) and Jake Trussel (electronics/turntable). The group has scored a film, The Strangler's Wife as well as touring with ex-Can, Damo Suzuki. Cul de Sac has taken a bit of a creative shift with the new members but fans won't be left out to dry. The music is still very stark and completely instrumental. The new members fit in fine and actually add a new dimension to the instrumentals. Death of the Sun is a moody affair that will please fans of Low and even Codeine for that matter. The arrangements are very sparse but intricate and seem to keep the mood throughout the album. 6 songs take up 43 minutes of your time if you're not really paying attention. Cul de Sac is a band that shouldn't be listened to while operating heavy machinery. That's about all I have to say. I enjoyed Death of the Sun but it's not a religious experience.
