Sometimes you are just floored when you find out certain information. I found myself sprawled out when I found out that Otep was fronted by a female. Yes, that rough angry voice is the possession of Otep Shamaya. Some translations might help out in a description of the band. Otep is an Egyptian word that means "creative offerings" and Sevas Tra means "art saves". Need I say that Otep Shamaya is an art lover. In fact, she is an illustrator, poet, painter and writer as well as the lead singer of Otep. Now, when I said I was surprised to find out that Otep's voice was indeed a female, that was with regards to her awesome growl. It rivals with that of Phil Anselmo from Pantera. Seriously. And their slower stuff is so dark that I was having nightmares. It's totally awesome. She scares me and that is a good thing for a dark metal band. Sevas Tra is an intense album that is not to be taken lightly. People don't know what to think of this band because there is so much emotion and intensity thrown into the album. Diversity is something that they possess as well. Apparently their live show is something to see too. If your metal music is not heavy enough for you then try out Otep. You shouldn't be disappointed.
