Suffrajett is another rock band from NYC that is trying to ride the attention of such bands as The Yeah Yeah Yeahs and The Strokes. The thing with Suffrajett is that they seem like they are a sincere rock and roll band that is fronted by the skilled vocals of black female Simi. They seem to have a bit of punk attitude but their sound is strictly rock. Suffrejett's songs are instantly catchy and don't require repeat listens to get into. The three piece (seems like always four in their live pictures) have been around for just a brief period of time but are already making a name for themselves. "Whatcha Got" is the first really rocking track. It's got a driving guitar riff and Simi's vocals are distorted too, for some reason, adding a gritty sound to their rock. On "The Drugs" Suffrajett resort to a Veruca Salt style grunge pop sound. It's a catchy song. There is plenty on this debut album worth checking out so head over to CDBaby to pick it up.
