Lamb - What Sound
In just 5 years, Lamb has become one of the premier vocal drum and bass acts in the world of electronica. What Sound is the duo's third album and most distinguished as well. Vocalist Louise Rhodes and producer Andrew Barlow have never really been the best of friends outside of work but when they get together, the magical music appear. Somehow, after all that has been done in the electronic music field, Lamb has managed an album that sounds very fresh and unique. I have always thought that Louise's voice is much more suited to this style of music than that of Portishead, a band they often get compared to. She just seems more mature and diverse. On What Sound they invite some guest artists in to help including Arto Lindsay on guitar, Spearhead's Michael Franti helping out with vocals and Me'Shell providing bass on occasion. The music on What Sound is brilliantly laid out and there isn't a dull moment on the album. I'm not sure if this album has been released domestically but seek it out. You won't be disappointed. It is a great feat that Lamb has outlived Portishead. I hope that they have many more fine albums left between Louise and Andrew.
