Bernie Swell doesn't seem to advance very far from his debut as Izdatso on I Know Nothing. Now there is nothing wrong with I Know Nothing, it's just a little lacking in the creative area. Izdatso is a downtempo project that is primarily vocal-less and rarely gets your imagination into a tizzy. I could see this album fitting into cocktail lounges as background music because there is nothing there to distract your attention from your conversation at hand. Some of the tracks stand out a little more than others. I really enjoyed the closer "Canal St Martin" but overall there are better downtempo releases out there that deserve your hard earned money. If you were to run into this disc, listen to it repeatedly and you might find some hidden jewels in amongst the album. Swell needs to take a look at what he's doing and refocus his efforts to reach into untapped music, sometimes harder to do than it sounds.
