Live From Camp X-Ray is a blast of rock and roll that you have to be prepared for. It is done in under 27 minutes, before you even get a chance to see what hit you. Camp X-Ray is not a live album despite what the title may lead you to believe. Instead, it is the next in the line of albums we have seen from Rocket From The Crypt in a few years. Group Sounds showed the band at the peak but on this one John Reis (Speedo) has pulled in the reigns and packed the punch. It's a good album but it doesn't have the variety that some of the other Rocket albums have. I had the pleasure of finally seeing Rocket From The Crypt live this year and I know they have the potential to do a couple more great albums. John is so passionate about his music and getting the crowd involved with his music. Camp X-Ray does have a couple killer moments but on tracks like "Can You Hear It" you can't help but think the guys are just going through the motions. But then right around the corner is the inspired "I Wanna Know". If you are just discovering Rocket From The Crypt, head back to their Scream, Dracula, Scream era and start there. Once you have worn out all the albums up to this point then you could do with adding Camp X-Ray to your collection. It's a good album, just not up to par with what we have come to expect from Speedo and the gang.
