There is a new band hitting the radios of the UK coming to us from Deptford, South London. Athlete's music is very mellow but has an experimental side to it. Their music sounds familiar but you can't really place it. There is a link between their music and that of stereotypical Brit Pop music but Athlete is different in some way. I found myself listening to it repeatedly and enjoying pretty much every song, especially "Shake Those Windows". Each song incorporates a sample of something that keeps your senses poised. You expect them to break out in something that the Beta Band would do but instead, Athlete stick to a traditional song structure for the most part. Their music is as beautiful as Coldplay's but again different in their presentation. I read a review of this album from the Guardian that was saying that Vehicles & Animals would have soared up the charts if it had come out six years ago. I beg to differ. I think people would have been confused with an album as simple and yet as complex as Athlete's debut. Now is the time for Athlete even if it may take them a couple of albums to get noticed. Their pop melodies are something that most appreciating music fans will find charm in. Vocals are super clear and you can understand every lyric. This is another great band from the UK that you need to seek out.
