One of Canada's best pop bands is back. Yeah, the Super Friendz were gone for a while, doing their own things but Love Energy marks the return of one of Canada's favorite indie bands. It is the bands first album in seven years and a fine return to form. To keep it all East Coast based the band used former Thrush Hermit bassist Ian McGettigan to produce the ablum. I find it amazing that Matt Murphy could get away from his other band, The Flashing Lights but he somehow pulled it off. Harmonies are abound on Love Energy, making it one of the most realized Super Friendz albums to date. I guess diversity is part of the plan when everyone in the band contributes to songwriting and singing. There are some tracks that sound like tried and true Super Friendz ("Nostalgia Machine") but there are also a bit of a new flavor on songs like "Good To Feel Live". The band is great at harmonies and reaching a 60s style pop without sounding retro. I would say that Love Energy is indeed one of their finest moments and an album to be proud of. The more I listen to it, the more I enjoy it. Hopefully this won't be just a one-off and they guys will realize that The Super Friendz is a project that needs to be kept alive.
