Mando Diao is yet another chapter in the Swedish rock revolution. After Refused, The (International) Noise Conspiracy, Hellacopters, and so many other great Swedish garage rock bands comes Mando Diao. They are a group who move a little more towards 60s style bands like the Kinks and The Animals rather than heading full-on towards the Stooges. This make for a retro vibe on the album that sounds refreshing but a little rehashed. The great thing about Mando Diao is that they can write some killer songs. "The Band" is one of the best tracks on the album proving that The Strokes aren't the only one's who have the talent required to pull this off. "To China With Love" is a full on mix of The Animals and The Doors. It's good to see that great bands are still be used as templates for great music. There is blues injected into their rock style and it makes many of their songs just a little raunchy. "Paralyzed" has so much going for it that I would imagine Mando Diao would probably use this track for their first single. The horns work great in adding an extra dimension to it. "P.U.S.A." is a great road tune with a driving rhythm to it. The album grows with every listen making it an easy replacement for your Strokes album with much better production even though it was done in their basement.
